Celestia forges ahead with a new generation of gateway ground terminal

Edinburgh, 20th June 2024: Celestia is forging ahead with the development of multi-beam phased array systems for satcom gateway/teleport applications. This powerful and exciting new technology provides a new model for ground equipment to address the burgeoning number of satellites to be tracked in the rapidly growing LEO constellation environment.

This versatile and high-performance new compact gateway ground terminal offers 100+ Gbps data throughput to 40 or more satellites from a single installation. The maintenance-free phased array technology has no moving parts for increased reliability and reduced downtime.

It can be installed on city centre rooftops such as data centres or other locations on a footprint smaller than 20m2, replacing the need for multi-acre remote sites with multiple reflector antennas and their high associated CAPEX and OPEX costs.

The phased-array, multi-beam technology inside is capable of connecting to multiple multi-orbit satellites, providing full 2.5 GHz instantaneous bandwidth, simultaneous LH and RH polarisations and high EIRP and G/T.

The new applications of these antennas cut across numerous different markets, including rural broadband internet, terrestrial backhaul, airborne communications, autonomous transport, facilities automation and earth observation as well as remote healthcare and education.

“The technology we have developed for our compact gateway ground terminal is a huge step forwards offering so many advantages over traditional solutions for a wealth of different applications” says Dr Malachy Devlin, CEO of Celestia UK.

”Our solution, based on a high-performance multi-beam gateway using an electronically steered antenna with agile tracking capability, reduced footprint and cost, is part of the technology bringing global connectivity one step closer,” he says.
